About Blaupause
Frequently asked questions
Why Atelier Blaupause?
Atelier Blaupause was founded with the goal of preparing base maps for architecture competitions – so that each participating firm doesn't have to do the same work from scratch. The name «Blaupause» (blueprint) refers to the cyanotype process used in the 19th and 20th centuries to cheaply reproduce and share technical drawings. The insights gained from preparing competition base data have flowed into our Planwerk – an interactive map of Switzerland that makes this knowledge and these resources accessible to all planners.
What is the Planwerk?
The Planwerk is our interactive map for base maps. Pick a location in Switzerland, set the perimeter, select products – done. Within seconds the data is prepared server-side and ready to download. No manual research, no piecing together from various sources.
What do we offer for competitions?
We prepare the base data for open architecture competitions in Switzerland. Thanks to our direct access to competition information, we can provide the documents promptly and completely. For interested planning firms and organisers we also prepare further competitions on request. The competition base data includes an urban model, the room programme, the site plan, the official cadastral survey and the figure-ground plan. For selected competitions we additionally model the character-defining buildings. All documents are available as DXF/IFC or directly as ArchiCAD and Vectorworks files.
Which data sources does Blaupause use?
We use exclusively official Swiss geodata: orthophotos and terrain models from swisstopo, cadastral data from the cantonal surveying offices, 3D building data from swissBUILDINGS3D, tree cadastres from various cities and the habitat map from the FOEN. All data is in the Swiss coordinate system LV95 (EPSG:2056).
Who is Blaupause for?
For architecture firms, landscape architects, urban planners and students – everyone who needs reliable base maps quickly for competitions, study commissions or projects. Instead of spending hours researching and preparing geodata, planners can focus on what matters: the design.
